Who Made Your Sleeves?
Powdered Charcoal on the wall

Garment workers sew approximately 60 sleeves an hour, working an average of ten hours a day, thus making approximately 600 sleeves in a typical workday. Many must sew seams in 48 seconds in order to keep their production requirements on schedule. This incredibly regimented and repetitive labor is done in mostly unsafe factories, earning workers much less than a living wage. We rarely think about the people who sew our clothes and yet, it is their labor that makes our clothing possible. As you read this statement you can be certain that there are thousands of women on the other side of the planet, making the sleeves for the next shirt you purchase.
