The Labor We Wear
The Labor We Wear was exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in 2021. Comprised of The Bottom Line, Collared, Piece Work, and Shroud, these four monumental textile works represent the invisible labor that many people wear every day, our complicity within the entrenched cycles of labor and capitalism, and the individual lives directly impacted for the past century of fast garment consumption. All of the works in this exhibition were created with used textiles bought by the pound at Goodwill Outlet. Through acts of sewing and dismantling, I divert sewing's original purpose, that of creating and mending, toward social critique.
